You are supposed to split while holding the freeze key down. But if you find it inconvenient, you could alternatively select the "Toggle" freeze mode in the script's settings (Features by Donut > Linesplit Features > Freeze mode > Toggle). This mode enables the behavior you probably expect: the freeze key will let you switch between freezing and moving every time you press it.
